Product Design
Atmosfy is an emerging technology startup with a mobile app that helps people discover the best dining, nightlife and hotels in their city and around the world through engaging, short-form videos from local experts and passionate visitors.
We learnt from qualitative research that users would like to use in-app messaging mainly for planning outings with their friends. Messaging could also be useful for communicating with creators or businesses. As Atmosfy strives to become a more social product, we sought to incorporate a messaging feature that would solve for these specific users needs.
The implementation was done through an integration with a messaging provider. My role in this project mostly involved adapting the provider’s existing UI kit to match the look & feel of the Atmosfy app, while still keeping implementation fast and seamless. I also proposed an update to the app’s information architecture to accommodate for this feature, created net new components like a share modal on Home, and proposed educational messages across the screens.

Impact
Within the first few weeks post launch, about 14% of active users entered the Inbox tab and 1K users adopted the feature. Most users who entered the tab had friends that they could message.
